Mobile Area Education Foundation

May 2025 to July 2025 Mobile, AL

Edited the foundation's monthly newsletters, supported a summer reading camp and created a 12-part professional skills series for high school students.

The Mobile Area Education Foundation works to improve public education in Mobile County, Alabama. As a Career Development Intern, I worked with the foundation’s communications director on newsletters, classroom support and workforce development resources for high school students.

May

  • Introduced to my mentor, the foundation’s communications director.
  • Attended a partnership meeting on the Alabama Education Roadshow and the Cradle-to-Career plan, and joined a breakout session on which high school groups to include in the Roadshow presentation.

June

  • Edited the June newsletter in Canva.
  • Spent two weeks at the Chickasaw Elementary School Summer Reading Camp, observing one to two classrooms a day from first through fourth grade, assisting in math and reading lessons and teaching an origami lesson to a fourth grade class.

July

  • Edited the July newsletter in Canva.
  • Developed resources for the Workforce Development Program aimed at high school students, researching professional development skills through articles from Indeed, Harvard Business and others.
  • Created 12 infographics on professional skills: interviewing, dressing professionally, networking, time management, conflict resolution, writing a professional email, confidentiality and trust, critical thinking, teamwork, public speaking and resume building.
  • Gathered additional free teaching resources from across the web.
